What to see in Cannes-La Californie?

Among the 10 districts that make up the city of Cannes, La Californie, which overlooks the bay, is undoubtedly one of the most select in the city. It is bounded by Pointe Croisette to the south and Le Cannet to the north.

La Californie is a residential district, focusing on the elegance of its buildings and the preservation of its green spaces

A sunny area all year round, the site attracts tourists for its oriental gardens. However, it remains away from the tourist bustle, thus ensuring its inhabitants a calm way of life.

The Villa Picasso , also called Villa California, bought by the famous painter from whom it takes its name, saw the birth of many of his works including "the Bay of Cannes". This eclectic-style villa, enthroned in the middle of a park with its private swimming pool, was later abandoned by Picasso and restored by his granddaughter following his succession, who renamed it "Pavillon de Flore".

Guarantor of its reputation as an upscale district, La Californie has historically developed through the construction of many exceptional places. Among the seaside heritage of Cannes, the Villa Fiorentina, built in 1880, is a real pleasure for the eyes with its Italian gardens, laid out as a terrace during the First World War. It is now a private condominium listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.

Also located on the heights of Cannes, the Villa Rothschild , built in 1881 in place of Lord Brougham's villa, at the request of the Baroness who gave it her name, seduced by its neo-classical style. Following its confiscation during the occupation by the city, it became one of the most romantic public properties in Cannes and now hosts the media library and numerous cultural events.

Nicknamed the hill of billionaires, California indeed attracts the wealthiest .

It is also in this district that one of the most expensive real estate transactions in France took place, in 2002, with the purchase by the Khalifa group of the Villa Bagatelle for 37 million euros. This villa has seen famous celebrities such as Catherine Deneuve, Gérard Depardieu, Sting and Bono parade through its walls.
